GENERATION OF ELECTRICITY FROM SPEED BREAKER USING PIEZOELECTRIC MATERIAL – A COMPARISON WITH CONVENTIONAL METHODS

The  alarming rates of extinction of fossil fuels is pushing the need towards energy conservation. This is an attempt to bring out the effective  way to generate  electricity  from  speed  breaker. Electricity is generated by replacing the traditional  speed breakers  with some  simple  mechanism. This  experiment  uses piezo electric material to generate electricity from the weight of the vehicles moving on speed breaker. This energy can be stored  in a battery to power street lights, parking signals etc. This experimental method  is compared to the previous methods available such as rack and pinion mechanism and roller mechanism to bring out the most effective method.
