DESIGN AND FABRICATION OF OVERHEAD PCM BASED LATENT HEAT THERMAL STORAGE TANK FOR SOLAR WATER HEATING

Conventional water heaters or heating rods have risk of electric shocks, consume much power which in turn costs more and require more maintenance. The newest field in water heating overcoming such flaws is phase change materials (PCMs), where the melting and freezing of PCMs can be used to store heat and that heat can be used for useful purposes. The use of Different types of storage system using phase change materials (PCMs) is an effective way of storing energy. Phase change materials (PCMs) have a high heat storage density. PCMs have been extensively used in various storage systems for heat pumps, solar engineering, and thermal control applications. The objective is to develop a thermal storage system that heats the water using heat stored in the PCM. The methodology is to choose the suitable material and design the prototype. The use of PCM’s for heating and cooling applications have been investigated during the past decade. There are large numbers of PCM’s, which melt and solidify at a wide range of temperatures, making them attractive in a number of applications.
