MECHANICAL PROPERTIES INVESTIGATION OF NOVEL FILLER FOR WELDING PROCESS ON CORTEN STEEL

Corten steel (often referred to as Corten) is a weather resistant steel which could more accurately be termed as an “Atmospheric Corrosion Resistant Steel”.

It is a copper chromium alloy steel – this alloy displays a greater level of resistance to atmospheric weathering when compared to other unalloyed steels. It’s chemical composition promotes the early formation of an adhering protective layer of rust when exposed to the elements.

ASTM  A588 Grade steel are highly resistant to atmospheric corrosion, superior corrosion resistance over regular carbon steel as a result of the development of a protective oxide film on the metals surface which slows down further corrosion. Both are high-strength low-alloy weathering steels which exhibits 50,000 minimum yield strength with 0.19% of carbon content. Novel filler is prepared by Electroplating of Base Metal by Cu, Cr and Ni. In this work we are doing gas tungsten arc welding directly on one pair of weathering and on second pair by Novel filler. Finally the Mechanical properties are tested individually.
An attempt has been made to investigate the mechanical and metallurgical properties of novel filler by GTAW process on weathering steel and obtained positive results.

Test taken:
  • Tensile testing
  • Hardness testing
  • Bending test
  • Impact testing
  • Micro-structure testing
  • Macro-structure testing

Price:
Rs. 20000 /-
